Skin Dermabrasion
After a skin dermabrasion, the skin will visibly appear swollen and quite red in color. If skin dermabrasion is done on the face, talking and eating may prove to be quite difficult. There may also be some burning sensation, aching and tingling.
Take note that any discomfort you may be feeling could be controlled with appropriate medications as prescribed by the surgeon. Relax, any swelling will immediately subside in a week or a few days.
Do you remember any scars or scrapes you may have had as a kid when you fall down? That is the same type of scab that will develop on the area that has gone thru dermabrasion. The crust on the area will easily fall off as a new skin layer that is pink and tight forms under.
When skin dermabrasion is done on the face, be careful as the face may itch especially when new type of skin is growing. Your own surgeon may recommend and provide you with a specific ointment to make you feel more comfortable. Take note that is there is an ointment that is immediately applied after the surgery, no scab or very little of it will form.
Your surgeon will always provide you with specific instructions on caring for your skin just after a cosmetic surgery. For male patients, the surgeon may recommend that shaving be delayed for a bit and by using first an electric razor. It is always best to understand any instructions the doctor may have and to follow them the best you could, this is to make sure healing is quickly possible.
If at any time you may notice that the area treated are becoming more red, itchy and raised, it could be a possible sign that some abnormal scarring is starting to form. It is always best to contact and consult with your surgeon as soon as possible so treatment could start early and correct.
It is easy to go back to normal daily activities after skin dermabrasion. Your doctor may advise you to avoid any physical activity that would result in a bump on any of the areas on your face for a minimum of two weeks. As much as possible, activities that are related to sports must be avoided for at least six weeks.
