Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a technique that aids in freshening the skin and help in its repair when it has taken a beating from age and the sun. Basically, microdermabrasion is done using a device that is somewhat similar to a fine sandblaster which sprays small crystals on the face while it gently yet abrasively mixes and suctions to remove away any dead layers of the outer skin.
In order to visibly reduce fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation, more than a single microdermabrasion treatment may be necessary.
The good thing about microdermabrasion is that it is a procedure that is completely non-invasive. Microdermarasion is perfect for most superficial skin imperfections such as age spots, stretch marks, etc. Also, once undergoing microdermabrasion, anyone could just as easily go back to your daily normal routine even right just after treatment.
Believe it or not, microdermabrasion is such a painless and simple procedure that it could even be done at home. Machines that perform microdermabrasion consist of a pump and a compressor that peels the skin's outer layer - approximately ten to fifteen skin microns (a layer that is just so thin it could not be seen by the naked eye).
The whole microdermabrasion procedure lasts a mere thirty minutes or sixty minutes the most. Microdermabrasion could be done on the chest, neck, face, hands and feet. The fact of the matter is, microdermabrasion is an artificial and very accelerated form of exfoliating the skin where after more than eight weeks, the production of new skin cells is begins. The resulting effect is visible skin elasticity, better cell nutrition, positively heightened skin texture, faster production of skin cells and vasodilatation. In short, healthier and fresher skin with better surface quality and absorption.
Microdermabrasion works because it works with the natural process of the skin's renewal which is about four to five weeks for young adults. Take note that the process of skin cell renewal slows down with age as the skin becomes more exposed to abuses and the sun.
Anytime the skin is exposed to the sun for longer time periods, the skin's underlying layers become thick in order to protect it from skin cancer and other forms of skin disease.
It is important to ask a qualified and professional plastic surgeon when you are considering of going through microdermabrasion. The ASPS or the American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the largest organization in the world when it comes to plastic surgery. All its members are certified by the ABPS or the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
